i’m in the middle of a sock frenzy!

Posted on: May 15, 2007

I have been knitting like a woman possessed in the past couple of days, and have made some good progress on two separate socks. This was early last night:

And this is now. I have not started my evening’s knitting yet.

Here is the Spunk Sock last night:

And now:

I don’t have a whole lot of time to devote to my knitting at the moment, so I am pretty pleased with the progress. I have decided I am going to try an afterthought heel with the Spunk’s Socks – this appeals to me because I think the heel is my least favourite part of the sock knitting journey. It always seems to take so long. The concept I am using is in the Favourite Socks book. Rest assured, I will keep you posted.

Perhaps the most exciting news, however, is that my fibre arrived home:

This photo goes nowhere near doing this stuff justice. Please forgive my photos at the moment. Not only am I too busy during daylight hours to take photos, but I am also dealing with a particularly crap camera. If you want to see much better images, head over to Ewe Give Me the Knits. One is Pink Swirl, the other Green Agate, and most unbelievably these are available for only AUD5.50 per 100g. Mandie also included a little parcel of shiny stuff to include in the spinning. I have half decided to rip the raw fleecy stuff off the bobbins, throw that stuff in the bin and just get on with life. What do you reckon? It won’t take much to convince me!

In non-knitting news, the Super Spunk and I will soon be found on the dance floor. We have decided that if it’s good enough for the ‘Stars’ , it’s good enough for us. We are taking up ballroom dancing. Ahem. Watch this space.

Miss Amannda!
If I’d known that you were so busy and a kindred craft nut spirit as well I would have been less pushy asking for project work for the SBT!!
Great work that you are doing and I envy your skills! The last scarf that I tried to knit is still on the knitting needles, buried in my lovely purple flowered knittng bag in the bottom of a moving box somewhere … can organise 70 people to Melbourne from around Oz but can’t finish a scarf!

So much sock knitting!!! The Sockapalooza (sic) socks look great, and the SS too!! Good luck with the spinning, can’t wait to see it.
There’ll be Strictly Ballroom at your house then: we’ll need pictures and those footsteps from Arthur Murray so we can all keep up at home!!!

Glad that your fibre arrived safely – have fun playing! Thank you for the plug and the link too 🙂

Wow- great sock progress for someone with little time to knit. Well done. Mandie’s stuff is great. I have a little put away for a rainy day. 🙂

Ballroom hey I did do that before MS stopped me due to bad balance but I can sometimes when bored still be seen slowly stepping things out. Well Melbourne it kept me sane I think.

Noce work on the socks.

Those are a nice pair of bright socks (the colors on my monitor appear close enough together that if you didn’t say which one was a Sockapaloooza sock I wouldn’t be able to tell)!

I have a Gütschein (gift certificate) given to me by the DH in 2000 for ballroom dancing lessons. He still has not found the course or the time.
Good luck on doing this. Some men just don”t dance!

Thanks for visiting! A warning about the LL Black Purl – it pooled badly on the foot (I hid it well in the pic!). Your socks look great – the sockapalooza ones fit the bill of being “different”!

OMG those sockapalooza socks look GORGEOUS!!! You would think that I did that colourway just for the pattern!!

I cant wait to see more!

Oooh “socks from hell” are coming along great too…Having no problems with it all?

That fleece is all gorgeous! I love it

The socks look great, and I *love* the colours of your new fibres. Thank heavens I don’t spin, so I’m not tempted to order any! 😉

The socks look fantastic – I must buy some dpns to go with my newly acquired sock yarn (blue Jigsaw). They will be my first pair of wool/nylon socks in the round.

Ballroom dancing – I love it but hubby isn’t keen. Our exercise is at the gym which I joined last week and he will join tomorrow! (I’m still walking 2-3km daily too!)

Socks look great! Dancing would be so much fun!

wow. i love that green and orange sock yarn!! you’re doing it top down?? i’ve never done top down socks before 😛

Ballroom dancing???? Knitters are truly creative artists aren’t they always looking for furthur ways to express our selves, will you have dazzling costumes?

Goood luck on the sock front! I have made one sock with an afterthought heel, it made my sock too long, so when I am in the right mood I am undoing my toe and taking it back a bit before reknitting it up.

Spinning has oft fascinated me, the recent yarn with all their talk about spindles had me almost relenting, almost! Then I thought of how many more unfinshed projects I would end up with, all that unknitted yarm and then there would be all that unspun fleece…
