He has achieved success
who has lived well,
laughed often, and loved much;

who has enjoyed the trust of
pure women,

the respect of intelligent men and
the love of little children;

who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;

who has left the world better than he found it
whether by an improved poppy,
a perfect poem or a rescued soul;

who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty
or failed to express it;

who has always looked for the best in others and
given them the best he had;

whose life was an inspiration;
whose memory a benediction.

–1904 Bessie Anderson Stanley

So we said goodbye to Auntie on Wednesday, and it was very very sad, but I took some comfort in the words of the celebrant. He read a version of the poem above and I think it was a perfect choice. I doubt Auntie made it as far as Hobart in her life, but she lived a true and for the most part happy life. She enjoyed her family and took pride in being a mother, a wife, a grandmother and and Auntie. She enjoyed cooking for her family, and knitting for them and helping them learn to do these things for themselves.

We are off to the beach tomorrow, and I can’t wait. There are four weeks of holiday left and I have so much to think about before school starts. We have decided that the next week is for relaxation, then it’s action stations – educate the youth ’09 must begin in earnest.

I have been sewing and knitting. Here are Embossed Leaves:

Here is some detail of another apron:

I cast on another pair of Monkey socks for MIL1:

I cut out and used velcro to make nappies/diapers for Tiny Madam’s doll:

I made curtains for the bathroom:

I have also made another skirt but you will have to wait for that picture. I made a bag for the Tiny Madam and the Number One Son yesterday, but again slack with the pictures!

Today was knitting group and it was fun! I had problems concentrating and went backwards more than forwards, but that’s okay. I must remember to take something I don’t have to count next time!

I am taking three pairs of socks to the beach to knit and may just have to swing by Spotlight before departing. My yarn from Bendigo to make Rogue and Yarns Online to make a Hybrid for the Spunk did not arrive.

Have a great break – enjoy the rest!

I love those socks. I must try and knit some of them this year. I hope your auntie’s memories will live on in your life for a long time to come.

That is a great poem. Sounds like you gave your Auntie a good farewell.

Hope you have a lovely relaxing time next week – sounds wonderful!

Beautiful poem and lovely socks. You have been so creative!
