another day in paradise

Posted on: January 4, 2008

We have had so much hot (for us) weather in Tassie this last week or so, it has been absolutely amazing! We decided to take off to the beach for New Year’s Day. This beach is about an hour from our house.

This is my bunion enjoying the sand.

We all managed to get sunburnt except the Spunk. I felt like a very poor mother! I swear the kids had sunscreen on. They didn’t complain though – it really was quite superficial. Apart from that, we had a lovely time. When I was a kid there was no such thing as worrying about sunburn. My brother and I seemed to be outside most of the summer with nothing but a swipe of zinc cream across our noses for protection. I shudder to think what damage has been done.

I finished the socks for my No.1 Son. He loves them!

In fact, he is heading out on his skateboard right now with his Dad, and insisted on wearing his knitted socks. Yay! I also made these for the Tiny Madam. My goodness socks for small people go quickly!

Tonight I should finish the second Retro Rib sock for the Spunk. I love him, but by golly his feet are big. I am planning on making socks for ME next. The January challenge for Sock Knitters Anonymous on Ravelry is to knit either a pattern by Cookie A or intarsia. I am not going down the intarsia route with socks thank-you-very-much, so I am going to make another pair of Monkeys, this time without the purl stitches, which should make them go very quickly. I might also make Hedera as this pattern has been in my queue for a very long time. I have my two skeins of Trekking. The grey was intended for the Spunk, but I am feeling a bit selfish after making so many socks for others!

The two girls went and saw Enchanted yesterday, and both loved it. Quite a feat considering one is 5 and the other 14.

Today my dad called in, picked up the Spunk and the three kids and off they went on a trip down the river! They didn’t catch any fish unfortunately (or fortunately. I can never decide. I do love to eat fish but I DO NOT love to cook them!). Here is another peaceful water scene for your viewing pleasure.

All of this time allowed me to do a massive clean up around the house. I dusted and washed and vacuumed and cleaned and tidied. Now I just need someone to visit to admire how clean the house is for once!

Tomorrow, we are heading to the First Basin for a swim in the pool. We really are very lucky to live here.

Finally, does anyone know anyone who has ever taken spam email seriously? Here are a selection of today’s subject lines:

Hasn’t it been hot?? Too hot for us here. We are all wilted and it is going to be 28/29 for the next 2 days at least. Glad you are all enjoying the weather and getting out and about on your holiays!!!! Very nice socks, they do go quickly for small people!!! Is that Patonyle???? I loved Enchanted too!!

So hot! So hot at night – I swear, 25 in Tassie is worse than 35 in QLD! Sounds like you’re having fun though!

The beach looks awesome! Sure you don’t want me to send you some snow? 🙂
BTW…I stopped one of the doc’s in the hall today and begged for a script for antibiotics. Hopefully they will do the trick. Nice work on the socks. I love making baby socks they go really fast and everyone is so impressed. I think I would go with the Monkey socks also..Cookie A’s patterns can get pretty crazy.

OOh the beach looks so nice. We too got sunburnt last Sunday whilst staying at the beach and we had sunscreen on too. I dont think people realise how much harsher the sun is now. Love all the socks. I need to knit some more too, but dont have time at the moment with other knits being done. I too get spam emails, usually about penis enlargements and viagra tablets. I havent had any for a little while now, and I dont know how to stop them. They are rather annoying though.

Yes, it is time for some socks for yourself after all this sock knitting for everyone else.

I love that you managed to make whole pairs out of what I sent.

I keep wishing our feet would shrink but it hasn’t worked so far ;p

I think I may keep poppibg back to gaze at those beach pictures…….. it’s sooooooooo hot here.

Oh, I want sunshine and beaches. I would even put up with having to knit with cotton for sunshine!

Great socks! I wish I’d read about monkeys without purl stitches before I started mine. Oh well, might just have to make them again! The beach there looks great – not packed out like they are in Sydney!

Spam is a cack sometimes! Alas for these poor people, I have no need for penis enlargements, viagra or need a way to keep my wife/girlfriend happy.

And the one time they got close, increase your breast size! Well it made for a good story at the knitting coven.

Lovely socks — although it doesn’t look as though you need warm toes right this moment! your plying will be happier and happier, I assume. My two-ply is still questionable.

you know, I’m hoping my family don’t expect knitted gifts all the time. But then i worry that if i do give them all the time, they’ll roll their eyes and go, oh not another knitted item!

Yes, all the updating does take a while. I do it in bits and pieces but it’s hard to manage some days. Maybe 08 will be the year I pull back from a few things to give more to fewer projects!
